DESCRIPTION:ECORD et le Japon finalisent le lancement du Programme International de Forage Océanique – IODP³ (IODP cube) après 2024\, ouvert aux membres internationaux et basé sur la mise en œuvre d’expéditions de forage scientifique spécifiques à chaque mission. \n\n\n\nSuite à l’atelier de Phase 1 en ligne en janvier 2023\, l’atelier de Phase 2 se tiendra en personne (en mode hybride). L’objectif est de rassembler des chercheurs représentant des idées de forage prometteuses qui ont émergé pendant et après l’atelier de Phase 1\, afin de présenter et discuter de leurs plans scientifiques et opérationnels en vue de préparer des propositions de forage MSP et Chikyu à soumettre pour IODP3. L’atelier est ouvert à environ 100 participants de n’importe quel pays.

DESCRIPTION:Date limite inscription étendue au 29 octobre 2023 \n\n\n\nL’édition 2023 des Journées Scientifiques IODP-France aura lieu les 29 et 30 Novembre à l’Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris. \n\n\n\nLes journées scientifiques IODP-France 2023 auront pour objectif de dresser un bilan\, encore provisoire\, de l’implication de la communauté scientifique française dans l’International Ocean Discovery Program au cours du décennal 2013-2024. Elles permettront aux personnels ayant embarqué sur les expéditions IODP et à leurs collaborateurs à terre de présenter\, sous forme d’exposés invités et/ou de posters\, leurs principaux résultats. Perdurant\, sous diverses formes administratives\, depuis 1968\, et fédérant une vingtaine de nations autour d’objectifs scientifiques et sociétaux communs\, IODP est la plus importante et la plus pérenne des actions internationales en géosciences marines. Nous vivons une période charnière dans la vie du programme du fait du désarmement prochain (octobre 2024) d’un de ses navires dédiés\, le R/V JOIDES Resolution. \n\n\n\nCes journées seront l’occasion de présenter à la communauté\, la façon dont les différents acteurs d’IODP prévoient d’adapter le mode de fonctionnement du programme à cette évolution (opérations en mer\, management\, …)\, et d’en discuter collégialement.

DESCRIPTION:L’Expédition 401 Mediterranean-Atlantic Gateway Exchange du programme IODP (International Ocean Discovery Program) s’apprête à forer trois sites marins dans l’Atlantique et la Méditerranée\, de part est d’autre du détroit de Gibraltar. Départ le 10 décembre prochain pour 2 mois à bord du JOIDES Resolution. Cette expédition fait partie d’un projet plus large IMMAGE (Investigating Miocene Mediterranean Atlantic Gateway Exchange) qui implique le forage de deux autres sites à terre\, à l’emplacement des deux corridors fossiles qui permettaient l’échange des masses d’eau entre l’Atlantique et la Méditerranée au Miocène. \n\n\n\nEn effet\, actuellement\, l’échange de masses d’eau se fait par un seul passage\, le détroit de Gibraltar\, mais il y a 8 millions d’années\, il existait deux corridors\, l’un au nord du Maroc et l’autre au sud de l’Espagne. Au cours du temps\, ces connexions se sont réduites jusqu’à la fermeture\, bloquant les échanges entre l’Atlantique et la Méditerranée. Cet événement a causé la chute du niveau marin en Méditerranée de plusieurs centaines de mètres et l’eau s’est enrichie en sel au point que celui-ci a cristallisé pour former une couche de plus de 1000 m d’épaisseur sur les fonds des bassins de l’époque\, appelée aussi SaltGiant. Vers 5 millions d’années\, une remise en eau cataclysmique a reconnectée l’Atlantique à la Méditerranée\, stoppant la formation de ces dépôts salifères et transformant la Méditerranée en ce qu’elle est aujourd’hui. Ces phénomènes géologiques ont modifié non seulement la chimie des océans mais également leur schéma de circulation\, impactant le climat global.
