Workshop Magellan3 : Zero age drilling at mid-ocean ridges

La communauté est invitée à s’inscrire au Workshop ECORD/Magellan³ intitulé « Zero age drilling at mid-ocean ridges » qui se tiendra en ligne et à l’Université de Southampton (Grande-Bretagne) les 8-9 janvier 2026.

Contenu scientifique (en anglais)

Mid-ocean ridges (MOR) are a major component of the plate tectonic cycle. Newly formed ocean crust at MOR (‘zero-age’) undergoes significant changes soon after formation (e.g. the onset of hydrothermal alteration, hosting microbial life, changing physical and magnetic properties). Despite these fundamental changes, our sampling of ‘zero-age’ crust is very limited, particularly in the sub-surface. This workshop will explore the scientific rationale and locations for a zero-age drilling proposal using seabed drilling technology to be submitted to IODP³. The workshop will also explore opportunities to link any potential drill sites with other seagoing experiments to maximise the scientific return, as such we encourage communities who may not have engaged with scientific drilling before to participate.

• Lieu : Le workshop se tiendra au National Oceanography Centre Southampton, University of Southampton, avec une participation hybride en ligne possible.
• Quand : Du jeudi 8 janvier au vendredi 9 janvier 2026.
• Soutien financier: Les frais d’inscription au workshop sont gratuit pour les inscrits, les frais associés aux voyages étant à votre charge. Un soutien financer partiel est possible pour ceux assistant au workshop en présentiel, les Chercheurs en Début de Carrière (ECR : Early Career Researchers) seront prioritaires. Veuillez indiquer lors de l’inscription si vous souhaitez demander un soutien financier aux frais de voyage.
